I saw you...
Girl with the conner 3 shirt and taller guy in Baker D around 11 am this morning. The lady at the cash register was busy wiping tables and you didn't even wait two seconds to see if she would come back to swipe your cards before you just snuck in. I wish I had the courage at the time to say something at the time.

  1. Does it really matter? They make enough ripping students off 13 dollars a meal...

  2. OP, mind your own business, don't you have finals to study for?

  3. Kudos, OP.

  4. @1 the next time someone steals something from you...

    think karma

@2 you are worse than 1 don't be a bully

    @3 +1

@OP, did you ever think that maybe they would return after eating and have their cards swiped? If you watched them for the whole time, that is a little creepy. Just saying.

  5. @1,2 Ah yes, poor people. I forgot I was surrounded by them.

  6. Or did you think they might have the full 19 plan? Then swiping really doesn't matter

  7. @6 Good point, even with a 10 meal plan, most students will leave town before using up their meals this particular week.

  8. @6 Good point, even with a 10 meal plan, many students will leave town before using up their meals this particular week.

  9. Who really cares? They're probably on the meal plan in the first place. I mean, the food at dining is unappetizing enough that people with other readily available options probably wouldn't take risks to get to it. Even if they aren't on it, the two of them having food in no way prevents others' access to it and in no way denies the employees their pay. In actuality, they're probably just eating a portion that would end up thrown out otherwise.

  10. I don't think anyone on c3 is on the meal plan.

  11. I'll pay you kids on the dining plan to sneak out a ridiculous amount of food to me. For reals.

  12. @5 +1

  13. @9 You are over-thinking. I guess you don't eat late in the service where many things are already gone. Any stolen food DENIES the shelters around Cambridge the left overs. It is not thrown away. What is worse than stealing from the homeless?

@10 There many guest passes still posted to accounts that are use or lose, and the male may be on a plan.

@11 You remind me of the students who take the entire case of fruits left out by housemasters during finals week, rather than sharing.

@OP Why is it M spotting F, the Male was eating as well?

  14. I can't imagine how people are justifying stealing in this thread. Wow!! The next leaders of the world (oh wait!) You will make good politicians.

  15. OP, if I knew who you were, I'd take a dump in your laundry.

  16. @14 You really think there are no justifications for stealing?

  17. @2 +1

@5 go shove a stick up your rich, privileged ass

@14 that's not stealing. that's a vulnerability in their system.

I do this all the time whenever there's no one there to swipe me. I'm already overpaying for shitty food made by workers who hardly ever wear gloves. For christ's sake one of the janitors made my food once when they were understaffed.

Bon Appetit is a terrible mgmt. co. It ain't my job to do their job and make sure someone's standing there at the register.

  18. @16 Only thieves can find justification in stealing.

    ITT: LOLplebs, lrn2budget

  19. Guys it's not stealing, there's so much food that it's food communism

  20. @13, I'm one of those kids who are trying to make the MIT dining initiative fail. The administrating aren't doing a great job of listening so why should I care about it?

  21. @17 Between a person who can afford his meals and another who has to resort to crime, I think we can agree who holds the higher moral ground.

But don't consider me an asshole for stating this. I am in fact a generous man. I will provide you lunch and dinner for the rest of the semester if you would agree to carry out my chores.

  22. @20 Aren't you such a rebel. How cute. But like with every other administrative action, your opposition is futile.

    LOLBexley

  23. @15 such classlessness, as expected of a plebe.

  24. @22, thats where the cheap meal part of it comes in ;)

  25. Lol am i the only one where if a store annoys me, i steal some shit to get back at them? Also idk why the fuck anyone would care about stealing from people/places that they don't like.

  26. @25 yeah sometimes I steal other people's girlfriends

  27. I often do this when I don't feel like wasting 5 minutes of my life waiting for someone to come...and then I always watch to see when someone goes to the desk and then go up and give them my card to swipe. Don't make assumptions unless you stared at them the whole time.

  28. @25: theft is still theft.

It strikes me as sort of weird though that y'all are going after this person for (apparently) stealing dining hall food, but not for people who walk into a conference/seminar, grab food, and then leave without making the "payment" of their time/presence in that event. I find that much more offensive than this action (which I still don't like).

  29. @27 Don't make the assumption that I wasn't staring at you the whole time ;)

  30. As a Baker resident, we've pretty much come to an understanding with the swiper person that if they're not there, you just go in and you swipe when you leave or when they come back. So I feel like it's more than likely they ended up paying anyways

  31. @28: Taking a shit is still taking a shit.

I am being as enlightening as you are.

  32. @30 I assume you are correct.
But overall, if it was theft, then theft is till theft. No matter what you think. No justification for stealing. If you think otherwise, go back to first grade and get educated in morality before you get higher education.

  33. @17: Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's really stealing either. I've gotten plenty of free meals at Harvard due to their even weaker system.

@18: So if, say, you had to steal a dollar from a rich guy to save your mother's life, you wouldn't do it? You must realize that this is not a black & white issue. And to think that the only reason people can't afford food is because they can't budget is stupid. There are very poor people at MIT whether you notice it or not.

  34. payment is financial support for a system, or acknowledgement for doing something good. If you don't support the system, then make it unprofitable and steal things. It a way more effective and enjoyable way of conveying your opinion.

  35. @32: In first grade, they taught that disobeying your teachers, parents, and superiors is wrong. They also taught us to not do drugs and don't drink alcohol. Perhaps you're just easily brainwashed?

  36. kudos to the thieves #thug life

  37. @36, I think hashtags are typically one word #thuglife*.

  38. @33 I can't comprehend your hypothetical scenario, because I am not poor.

    HAW HAW HAW PLEBS

  39. @17 Umm, the only times when dining has been significantly understaffed were in emergency situations when the T wasn't even running. You should be thankful that the janitor was even there to make you food in the first place.

  40. @39 That ain't true. I know that understaffing occurred during recent emergencies, but this was not even close to being an emergency time, it was last week. It's also happened more than once earlier in the semester (still during non-emergency times).

  41. @40/17: looks like you just made that up since you couldn't answer.

  42. OP, I invite you to get off your high horse and come say this to my face in BC. Then well say who is all high and mighty.

    -C3 guy

  43. @42 Oh boy we have a tough guy here!

  44. @42 Only a plebe would back his crime with violence.

    0/10, would not financially back.

  45. @41: looks like you just made that up since you couldn't answer.

Now you want me to try to prove the unprovable over the internet. My argument has equal merit to yours, bitch.

@C3 guy, let us know when this happens I wanna see it!!

    -17/40

  46. @17:

"I don't usually attend Dining..... but when I do, I make sure the janitor is not serving food because he is disgusting"

    - put yourself in his shoes.

  47. @46 More like

"I don't usually attend Dining...because I'm poor waaaaahhh fuck rich people"

  48. @46 I'm not blaming the janitor. Obv he just did what he was told to do. I could've been more clear, but I'm saying the mgmt. co should be blamed for their poor staffing.

@47 lol you thundercunt. Just because I'm poor doesn't mean I'm hatin' on rich people nigga.

    -17

  49. @48 Poor and black, why am I not surprised LOL

  50. @49 white and bigoted, why am I not surprised LOL

  51. @50 You mean white, bigoted, and RICH

    HAWHAWHAW #antebellumsouthernwealth

  52. fuck I should be studying for finals. every time I go on isawyou my opinion of MIT students drops drastically.I don't know if it can go any lower.

can we get diff colors for different ip addresses? I'm really hoping this is like 3 kids playing pretend

  53. @31 You rock!
@5 We are admitted for our scholarly ability. Go to Harvard, please?
