I saw you...girl in minnie mouse hoodie walking along the river at midnight.You saw me sitting alone on a bench with tears in my eyes...and you stopped. Thank you for the lollipop and for telling me all about the little beautiful things in life :)

    @2 I see what you mean, but I actually would prefer if anyone who sees me crying would leave me alone. Although I think I would appreciate a quick lollipop and smile; just as long as the person didn't sit and listen to me making awful sniffing noises.

    I fully realize that it strongly depends on the situation and a person's characteristics in general, but I definitely respect her decision to stop. I think the far more convenient solution is to ignore someone who is distressed because they may or may not be looking for help and you may or may not be able to provide the kind of support that they require at that point. From a logical perspective, it makes sense to continue walking. And yet, there are times when even the smallest act of kindness can mean a world of difference to someone. From personal experience, I know that if someone had stopped for me, things would have probably turned out quite differently.

    Pay it forward, OP.
