Fun fact: Bostonians (and Cantabridgians) used to burn effigies of the pope every year on November 5th. General Washington made them cut that shit out because he wanted to convince Catholic Quebec to join in the revolution against the crown.
Other Fun Fact: General Washington was a pretty crappy tactician and during the siege of Boston, he wanted to send a bunch of troops to walk across the ice of the Charles river (back when it was like 2x as wide because Back Bay and MIT were still water/marsh) to attack Boston. His officers talked him out of it.
